On the subject of tins and cheapness, a tin of that very old fashioned favourite corned beef is a useful thing to have in the fridge. Then at a moment's notice you can make hash.
Corned Beef Hash
1 small tin corned beef will feed 2/3
3/4 potatoes or mire if you are trying to stretch it to feed 4
1 or even 2 onions
Corned Beef Hash

1 or even 2 onions
- Boil the potatoes
- Chop the onions and cook till soft in a little oil in a frying pan
- Let them cool enough to handle and then cut them up into cubes ( large or small is up to you)
- Cut the beef into cubes - it must have been in the fridge first
- Add these to the pan and stir so it all mixes
- Cook it all together fairly gently for 10 minutes or so, if you want it soft, or on a higher heat and let it go brown underneath so you can turn the brown bits in- either way it will taste good
Serve with peas and brown sauce or worcester sauce to taste. A fried egg on top is 'gilding the lily' but is also good.
